NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A pedestrian who was struck and critically injured by a car has died.

Officials with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said 25-year-old Lucas Avila Primero died Saturday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was struck by a car Friday morning on West End Avenue, just west of 21st Avenue in Nashville.

Police said Primero and a fellow construction worker, 23-year-old Giovanni Rosa, were crossing the street south on West End Avenue when they were struck by a Volkswagen Jetta.

Primero was critically injured in the collision. Police said Rosa was not hurt.

Investigators said the driver of the car claimed he did not see the pedestrians, due to rainy, overcast conditions. Police said the pedestrians did not use the crosswalk to cross the street.

The investigation is ongoing.
