NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police have identified the man who was shot and killed in Nashville's Edgehill neighborhood on Wednesday night.

Mario D. McKnight, age 35, was found deceased inside the back of a van owned by a local dry cleaning company in a parking lot at 12th Avenue South & Edgehill around 7:30 p.m.

Police said an employee of the company drove the van to the area near 12th Avenue South and Argyle Avenue. Some kind of altecation broke out, and McKnight somehow wound up in the back of the van and gunfire broke out.

The employee accelerated away in the van, and pulled into a parking lot at 12th Avenue South & Edgehill from where police were called.

Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron said detectives are investigating this as possibly drug related, but aren't ruling anything out.

The driver of the van was not hurt. Police said he knew McKnight, but did not disclose the nature of their relationship or whether he was involved in the shooting.

Police said they have strong leads in identifying the shooter. No suspects were named.
