NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A young mother from Missouri was killed and her husband and three-month old child were injured in a crash on Interstate 24 eastbound in Rutherford County on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday at mile marker 96, near exit 97 and Highway 64. A Tennessee Highway Patrol report said 21-year-old Andrew Ivanchuk and 21-year-old Danielle Janette Ivanchuch, from Wildwood, Missouri, were traveling to Florida with their three-month old baby when Andrew fell asleep at the wheel.
The car went off the left side of the interstate, and Andrew overcorrected. The car traveled back over both lanes of traffic, and off the right side of I-24 before hitting several trees.
Officials the Ivanchuks were not wearing seatbelts, but the child was restrained properly.
Danielle died in the crash. The baby, identified as 3-month-old Veralyn Ivanchuk, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Andrew was taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt. No conditions were released.
The right lane of traffic was blocked until about 10 a.m., and there was a three-mile backup along the interstate.
