MOUNT PLEASANT, Tenn. – One person has been confirmed dead after a house fire in Maury County.
Firefighters were called to the blaze in the 8400 block on Mt. Joy Road in Mount Pleasant around 3 a.m. Thursday after a newspaper carrier and neighbors called 911.
Emergency responders said by the time they arrived on the scene, the home was engulfed in flames and it was too late to rescue to the man trapped inside.
"The type of construction of the house burns quickly. Unfortunately at this time of the morning, it probably took some time before anyone saw it and we got the call," said Mark Blackwood with Maury County Emergency Management.
The body was sent to the medical examiner's office to be positively identified, but officials believed it was the body of the 72-year-old homeowner.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
