FRANKLIN, Tenn.- Monday
afternoon police say a good Samaritan stopped a shoplifting attempt. ld Jalen Dotson, 18 is accused of trying to steal from the Macy's in CoolSprings Galleria.
He remained in custody Wednesday after assaulting a store security officer and
another shopper during his attempted theft and escape.
Shortly after 5:00 Monday evening, Franklin Police said Macy's
security observed Dotson hiding an item of clothing under his shirt. Police say
Dotson repeatedly hit the security officer who tried to stop him, and he was
able to get out of Macy's into the mall.
Police said Dotson also threw a punch at an uninvolved shopper
who saw what was happening. That shopper was able to get Dotson to the ground
and hold him there until security could take him into custody.
Dotson is charged with shoplifting and two counts of assault.
His bond is $7,500. Police say Dotson was
trying to steal a tank top valued at $14.50.
