MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - There is a bizarre twist in the case of a possible TBI impersonator stopping women on the streets in Murfreesboro.
Lindsay Malcolm said she was one of two separate victims who were pulled over by a TBI officer. She said she was stopped by a man who identified himself as a TBI agent while driving Monday night on Thompson Lane.
Malcolm and another woman both reported that they were driving in Murfreesboro, when an SUV flashed blue and red lights at them. The first incident was reported on Wednesday morning.
Malcolm said he never clearly showed her a badge and started yelling at her. She said it terrified her and she sped away from the scene and called police.
In both cases, the women the officer pulled over became suspicious and drove away before anything more could happen.
Since that case another woman came forward with a similar story. And now, in the latest twist, the TBI reports one of its agents has confessed to stopping Malcolm.
"We have reason to believe there was an agent who pulled someone over at Thompson Lane," said Kristin Helm, TBI spokesperson.
That agent is now being investigated for inappropriate conduct during that stop.
The second case remains a mystery and the TBI concedes a copycat cop may still be out there.
