NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Nashville area Tea Party held a rally to oppose the Mayor's property tax hike.
The rally was held Thursday, at the Limelight Venue on Woodland Street near from Titans Stadium. Speakers included Nashville Tea Party President Ben Cunningham and Metro councilman Robert Duvall.
Tea Party members gathered near downtown to rally supporters and get
council members on their team before Tuesday's crucial second vote on the first
tax increase in six years.
"We
have got to, as citizens; say at some point I'm sorry you have all the money
you are going to get right now. You're going to have to operate on that. I am
not going to take any more money out of my operating budget from my family to
pay for Nashville government," said Ben Cunningham, Nashville Tea Party member.
Mayor Dean said that the 53-cent increase is vital
to making Nashville a better city, saying that it's about common sense:people want improvements and improvements require
money.
"We
don't print money. This isn't Washington D.C. We don't invest in the things
people don't care about; we are investing in things people really care about
like their police department," said Dean.
