NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police believe speed may have been a factor in a deadly crash near the Priest Lake area overnight.
It happened around midnight Thursday on Hobson Pike, just outside the entrance to Long Hunter State Park.
Police said the car was coming around the curve when it crossed the roadway, hit the guardrail, went off into a wooded area, and stopped in a field.
When emergency crews got on the scene, 28-year-old Matthew Hughes was dead.
Hughes was wearing a seatbelt. Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs in the crash.
The road was shut down until about 5 a.m. while the fatal reconstruction team investigated the crash.
