MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- A Middle Tennessee State University football player has been accused of punching a fellow student and breaking his jaw.
Murfreesboro Police arrested Dearco Nolan and charged him with aggravated assault.
"One of the students involved in the fight suffered very serious injuries to his face," said Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Dept.
Nolan is scheduled to be a senior on the football team. The 6'2, 250 pound defensive end is accused of sucker punching fellow student Charles Williams in the face during a party at an off-campus apartment.
"He hit me on my right side when I wasn't looking at him. It happened so quick. He was a big dude. He broke my jaw," said Williams, who is an aspiring rapper.
Williams said he can't perform since he had surgery on the jaw and it is wired shut to heal. But what most upset him is: "He took away my ability to eat solid food for six weeks," said Williams.
MTSU head football coach Rich Stockstill issued this statement on Nolan: "We are monitoring the situation and take these matters very seriously. These allegations, if proven true, do not reflect the values we stress to our student-athletes."
