NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Tennessee students are gearing up for TCAP testing this week, but there are some major changes this year.
This is the first year that TCAP scores will be factored into a student's end of year grade. TCAP scores in grades 3-8 will count as 10 percent of the final grade for the year in Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. This policy change takes effect this year due to a new state law that was passed last year.
Also, a new Tennessee Board of Education policy states third graders will not be promoted to fourth grade unless they demonstrate a basic understanding of the curriculum.
Teacher's will also be evaluated based on scores.
Parents are encouraged to do their part - making sure their kids get adequate rest, get to school on time and have a good breakfast.
For Metro –Davidson County, TCAP testing begins on Wednesday, April 25.
