LEBANON, Tenn. – A Lebanon police officer was arrested overnight on domestic assault charges.
Lebanon Police Chief Scott Bowen said Mitchell Owen McDannald, 24, was placed on paid administrative leave after being charged.
No details about the incident that led to the charges were released.
Officer McDannald was also involved in a controversial shooting in Lebanon two years ago that resulted in the death of an unarmed 22-year-old man.
In April 2010, a car carrying Gregory Thompson drifted into an oncoming lane, nearly hitting an officer.
McDannald and officer David McKinnley gave chase, until Thompson ran off the road. As they approached the vehicle, McKinnley slipped, and his revolver went off.
Officer McDannald, thinking that Thompson was shooting, opened fire, killing him.
That incident spawned federal lawsuits, but neither officer was charged.
