Police Make Large Drug Bust In MTSU Dorm Room

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Police said they made a large drug bust inside a dorm room on the Middle Tennessee State University campus.

Two Murfreesboro officers doing a routine knock and talk in Cummings Hall on the MTSU campus discovered a drug selling operation run by at least two students.

The students consented to a search of the room and police found several bags of marijuana, hydrocodone and oxycodone pills, digital scales and several containers like coffee cans with fake bottoms to hide drugs.

Police also discovered several large rolls of cash.

18-year-old Nathan Nuss admitted to selling marijuana and prescription drugs from his room in Jim Cummings Hall.

Nuss told police he and his roommate had been selling drugs out of their dorm for nearly six months, moving two to three ounces of marijuana a week.

"I'm just shocked," MTSU freshman Anna Gallagher said. "I didn't think that could happen at least without getting caught or anything."

University administrators said a campus alert was not sent out to students because there was no imminent danger.

"Obviously we are disappointed to hear any type of news like this," MTSU Spokesman Andrew Oppman explained. "What we're encouraged about is the community coming together and being more proactive, and being more informed about what they can do to keep the campus safe."

Because of Federal Privacy Laws, MTSU would not comment on what disciplinary action Nuss would face.
