WASHINGTON, D.C.- A bi-partisan vote in D.C. means the payroll tax cut will be extended and it means millions of Americans won't see paychecks shrink or unemployment benefits run out.
The payroll tax cut was mostly opposed by Tennessee's congressional delegation. Republican Stephen Fincher was the only yea vote in the mid-state. Congressmen Black, Blackburn, Cooper, and Desjarlais all voted nay.
The $143 billion dollar measure keeps the paychecks of more than 160 million working Americans from shrinking. Under the agreement, folks out of work for more than six months will get to keep their jobless benefits. It also prevents deep cuts in reimbursements for doctors who treat Medicare patients.
Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker also voted against the measure.
