Tommy Wilkerson, III
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police said a homeowner who reported he fired on home invasion suspects later admitted he was covering for his son.
Tommy Wilkerson, II, originally told police that two men kicked in the back door of his home on Chester Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. He said he fired shots from a .22 rife, striking one of the suspects.
Later, he told police that his son, parolee Tommy Wilkerson, III, had called him and told him that he had shot an intruder.
The younger Wilkerson allegedly left before police arrived. Police are searching for him, who is a registered ex-convict for felony drug convictions in Rutherford and Coffee Counties.
Police checked local hospitals to see if anyone came in to be treated for gunshot wounds, but so far no one has sought medical attention.
Earlier this month, a homeowner shot someone he believed was breaking into his home just two miles down the road from this robbery.
