NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A Metro Nashville Councilman was arrested Thursday afternoon during a prostitution sting operation at a hotel in Metro Center.
Metro Police arrested 33-year-old Metro Councilman Brady Banks at 4:40 p.m. at the Spring Hill Suites on Athens Way. According to police Banks offered $100 to female undercover officer in exchange for sex.
Officials said Banks met the officer in a hotel room after responding to an escort service ad posted by the police.
Banks represents District 4 in South Nashville. It runs along the Davidson County-Williamson County border.
The councilman is serving his first term and is considered by many people to be a rising star in politics. Political insiders said Banks may be considering a run for the District 20 seat in the state senate.
Brady has worked for the Governor's Books From Birth Foundation under both Governor Phil Bredesen and Governor Bill Haslam.
Before working at Books for Birth, Brady served as the Director of the Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods for Mayor Karl Dean. According to Banks' web site, in that position, he worked daily with neighborhood groups, constituents, and Metro departments to help local government respond to community needs.
Banks holds a B. A. from Mercer University and a Master of Divinity in Religion and Public Policy from Harvard Divinity School.
The councilman was one of three men arrested in the sting. Police also arrested Matthew Moynihan, 38, of Hendersonville and Jyotin Arora, 37.
Banks was booked into the Davidson County Jail and was held on $1,000 bond.
