NASHVILLE,
Tenn. – A man who was shot while sitting in his car at a red light
near Metro Center allegedly struck another car after he tried to get away.
It happened just after 11 a.m. on Dominican
Drive at the busy intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard. Police said 19-year-old
Cheyenne Turner was stopped at a red light in a maroon Pontiac when a blue
Chevrolet Avalanche SUV pulled up beside him in the turn lane. Turner told
police the suspect, 24- year old Timothy Batts, rolled down the window and
allegedly fired three shots. Two of the bullets hit the car, and the third
struck Turner in the shoulder.
To avoid the gunshots, the driver of the
car Turner was in accelerated into the intersection into oncoming traffic and
t-boned a silver car who had the right of way.
"The individual that was in the silver
car didn't hear any shots. Just going straight and all of a sudden t-boned by
the maroon car," said Metro Police Officer Steven Jolley.
Turner then got out of his car and ran to
the nearby Tiger Market for help. The other driver, fearing that the victim's
car was going to explode, also got out of his car and ran away.
Turner was taken to the hospital with minor
injuries.
Police recovered several shell casings from
the scene. The other driver was not hurt.
Police were actively searching for the
shooter and continue to investigate. They believe the shooter in this case was
out for revenge.
"The suspect in this case was shot
some time back. This victim today is supposedly the suspect in that shooting.
So it may be a retaliation type shooting,' said Officer Jolley.
Turner was convicted and sentenced to ten
years in prison for attempted second degree murder for shooting Batts in
January 2011 outside of a barber shop on Jefferson Street. Turner is currently
on probation.
Batts has previously been convicted of
cocaine possession.
